The view from my Creative Room is that of New Hampshire, not Cincinnati: frozen tree brances glisten in the afternoon sun. In my room, it's warm. My boys playing quietly (yeah, right!). The schools have declared "snow days", we have soup on the stove and blankets to wrap up with (in case the power goes out and we loose the heat.) We don't have to rush anywhere. It's quiet. To experience such calm right after two and a half very stressful weeks, is almost uncomfortable. Perhaps I am allowing myself this calm because I know that the stress is not over yet. We were all caught up with work, the kids were happy and healthy, it was perfect time for us to gather our strength and get ready for Lent. And then, on Wednesday, before the Catholic Schools' Week, our pastor announced to our kids that their school is going to have to close down because of lack of monay. Later I heard how Dante was telling his classmates about his idea: to sing and ask for money... (wonder where he got that idea!) It was amazing to witness how all the parents and the teachers got together, how we all worked non-stop to change the fate of our small neighborhood school which has been a source of knowledge, faith and friendship for 93 years. I wrote a special song which the kids sang at our International Festival just this past Friday. We all sang from the top of our lungs: "We believe that there is goodness, we believe in God's love, we believe in the power of prayer and we trust that you will never let us down." Our pastor didn't hear us sing. I didn't see him at the concert, but I hear that he showed up and left before the end. And the teachers wore "I do believe" shirts. We still have two weeks to raise 375K or get the enrollment up - with State Vouchers available, I can't see any reason why this school is not one of the most sought after - the teachers are amazing, it's a very safe and loving enviroment, with an awesome physical ed curiculum as well as a progressive health and nutrition program. If you feel like helping us, log on to annunc.org, e-mail the Archbishop of Cincinnati, or send in your donation to CAST Campaign (Continue Annunciation School Tradition) c/o Columbia Bank, 411 Ludlow, Cincinnati OH 45220. And pray for us, pray for the kids, and pray for our pastor. Outside, the world is still calm - the glistening trees reflect the orange hues of the setting sun. My boys are quietly and politely asking if the dinner is ready (yeah, right). Life is good. And I do believe. (in the power of prayer!) |
